Hidden Orchestra return to the road in November for a UK tour, featuring a host of new material and a new live show designed alongside Bristol based visual artist Lumen (on selected dates).
The highly descriptive and narrative feel of Joe Acheson's music (the mastermind behind the band) has been waiting for the perfect visual backdrop, and so after the band saw Lumen at work during a show in Bristol the journey began, with Lumen creating footage specifically for this project.
The multilayered percussion of Hidden Orchestra's music has inspired the projection-mapped set pieces of the new AV show. The initial idea of projecting images and lights onto the kick drums of the duelling drummers that front the band has expanded, and is now mirrored in screens throughout the stage built entirely of drum heads.
Hidden Orchestra's music is essentially acoustic, created using electronic means, and Lumen has tried to capture its haunting and organic nature, crafting the visuals by hand using light and found items with as little use of computer generated imagery as possible. Designed more as an advanced light show the footage is influenced by early animation and visual music experiments, in an attempt to represent the music with the movement of light on stage. By using various technologies Lumen is able to synchronise with the live performance of the band to create a cohesive and captivating show.
