Sonically innovative and lyrically sharp music

Tru Thoughts are delighted to announce the addition of the über-talented Riz MC to the label roster.

Riz MC makes sonically innovative and lyrically sharp music, which has won him a loyal online following and sparked huge press, TV and radio interest. Championed by BBC Radio 1 (through the ‘Introducing’ stage at Glastonbury, the Electric Proms and a Maida Vale session, as well as heavy radio play), he has toured his groundbreaking interactive live-show around the UK and internationally, to rave reviews; and played gigs from Fabric to the Royal Festival Hall with the likes of Massive Attack, Nitin Sawhney, Dizzee Rascal, and Mos Def. His critically acclaimed digital album, ‘MICroscope’ – and the immersive multimedia world he has created around it – add up to a fresh, powerful, entertaining and thought-provoking experience, and set Riz apart as a singular voice with an innovative and bold musical vision.

In early 2012, Tru Thoughts will put out a first ever CD release of ‘MICroscope’ – a deluxe edition with new content which sees Riz MC developing his ideas further and raising the bar again. The original digital album was heaped with praise on its initial release earlier in 2011, garnering a swathe of column inches, and this physical CD outing on the established indie label will introduce the augmented version of the record – with all-new skits created and recorded in collaboration with the mighty Zed Bias, plus a host of hot remixes – to the widest possible audience.

“I have always been a fan of Riz as an MC, ever since I heard “Post 911 Blues”. He is well known to many as an actor but he has serious skills as an MC too. His MICroscope album is so forward-looking, and a wonderfully deep listen both lyrically and musically. When I was telling Rodney P we had signed Riz, he started quoting me some of his lyrics and bigging him up as an MC, which says it all. I am so pleased that we will be putting out this album on Tru Thoughts and bringing it to a wider audience.” – ROBERT LUIS (TRU THOUGHTS A&R/CO-OWNER)
