Out 4th May on Tru Thoughts, “Get ‘Em Up” is the new EP from Dizz1 featuring collaborations with renowned MC Frank Nitt (Frank N Dank, Yancey Boys, J Dilla) and rising electro-soul duo Killbot Kindergarten. The blue 12”/digitalrelease previews cuts from Australian producer Dizz1’s LP, ‘In Sickness And In Health’, alongside remixes by Danny Breaks and DJ Manny. The EP recently gained the ultimate endorsement in forward-thinking hip hop, when Get ‘Em Up feat. Frank Nitt (Danny Breaks Remix)” was leaked by Flying Lotus on BBC R1.

In the creation of this new music, Dizz1 – AKA Melbourne based Dave Norris - set out with a mission to explore progressive, long-building, deep dance music arrangements in a hip hop context and tempo, with the idea of getting his favourite MCs to spit over beats that were far from the conventional looped bars, making for a hypnotic yet punchy and accessible sound.

The “Get ‘Em Up” EP continues what he started with 2014’s “Everyday Grind” EP, which brought the first glimpse of this project via tracks featuring Aloe BlaccWarrior Queen and Om’Mas Keith, tosupport from Om Unit, Clash, FACT, THUMP, MOJO, Potholes and many more.Adept at weaving a tapestry of sound to reflect and complement the styles of his collaborators, Dizz1’s warm, bouncing bassline and intricate backdrop on the new EP’s title cut make an outstanding platform for Nitt’s direct, energetic flow. The track features the sound of Norris’s daughter's heartbeat through the ultrasound machine among the meticulously wrought layers; it marks, in his own words, “probably the most expensive bit of gear used on this album and the beginning of the next phase of my life for sure!” Legendary D&B-leaning producer Danny Breaks comes with a magnetic slow burner of a rework.

Also featuring Nitt, to whom Norris was introduced by Adlib after meeting the latter at RBMAHigher Remix feat. Frank Nitt”is an exclusive alternate version of another upcoming album track, including a monster break combining a log-drumming rhythm from the trailblazing Melbourne based West Papua New Guinea musician Airileke with some neck snapping Dizz1 drums and scratches, lending itself to some kind of D.C. Go-Go meets West Papuan block party jam. The digital EP release brings an adventurous remix from Chicago footwork prodigy DJ Manny (Ghetto Teknitianz) for cutting edge dancefloors.
