Following releases for Soul Jazz and Greenmoney, Kalbata moves over to Tru Thoughts for a digital single aimed directly at the dancefloor; “SUS feat. Clapper Priest” is backed with a remix from Rossi B & Luca (Planet Mu, Senseless Records) and drops on 16th December.
Built around a crisp, stripped-back garage beat, whirring melody and layered low end, “SUS” sees Kalbata on fine form, with Clapper Priest adding his inimitable dubwise vocal stamp into the mix. For their remix, Rossi B & Luca up the tempo, toughen the drums and add extra percussion and synth stabs resulting in a peak time club banger.
Kalbata, real name Ariel Tagar, is a bass music pioneer from Tel Aviv. Regardless of genre, his distinct musical approach comes through in everything he does – a deep affection for the lowest of frequencies and a collection of vintage effects and instruments which guarantee his razor sharp beats will always have a warm analogue feel, floating in a pool of endless ripples and echoes. The same qualities come forth in Kalbata's precise and intense DJ sets, which can cover anything from 2-step to techno and dub.
