Off The Ramp 12"
This Tru Thoughts release draws on a range of dancefloor styles.
The hip hop and jazz influences of Mr Munk are evident on both tracks, with a distinctly live feel retained throughout the 12”. The title track is one of the standout club tunes from the original ‘When Shapes Join Together’ compilation. It’s a versatile track with clattering breaks, jumping keyboards by Ben Jones (who later went on to record and perform with Alice Russell) and a bright, uplifting b-line.
On the B-side we find ‘Up Up to the Sky’, a funk-filled drum and bass stomper, which has fluid beats, an extremely funky double bass and a dancefloor friendly horn. As a handy DJ tool, Mr Munk has slipped the beats from ‘Off The Ramp’ onto the 12” as well.
DJ Magazine “Tru Thoughts seem to be one of the few labels consistently coming up with dancefloor-friendly breaks which reject the tired loop-up-a-sample-and-fuck-with-it formula, and this release is no exception”
