Dis-Information 12"
The debut 12” release on Tru Thoughts by New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based producer Lanu (aka Lance Ferguson) marks a distinct departure from the raw, deep funk of his other project, The Bamboos.
Brimming with future soul and broken beat flavours, forward-thinking production and intuitive jazz sensibility, Lanu’s sound has been informed and inspired by the digital rhythms of West London and Detroit.
Opener ‘Dis-Information’ is an up-tempo discourse on the media built around a punchy Moog bassline, angular Rhodes chords and an insistent break. This extended 12” mix appears here in vocal and instrumental form.
On the flipside, ‘Mother Earth’ sees Lance team up Quantic and vocalist Aloe Blacc for a broken Afro-beat workout that calls out for us to respect the planet or face the consequences. This track also appears in instrumental form.
Closing track, ‘Don’t Sleep (Part 3)’ is lifted from Lanu’s debut LP, ‘This Is My Home’ [TRUCD121], released in March 2007.
