Salt Water EP
Back in summer 2003, Ross McLean (aka Mawglee) released this six-track slab of downbeat electrickery.
Opener ‘Nouby Rapture’ originally appeared on the ‘Shapes Mono’ double mix CD. It’s sweeping strings and tearful Rhodes are typical of Mawglee’s distinctive melancholia.
‘Sienna’ explores choral vocals and sub bass sounds. ‘Twilight Saga’ brings a laid back, percussive sound to the proceedings.
‘Sing Pretty’ is the centrepiece of this EP, its Scruff-like samples are embellished by a wailing fiddler on the roof. This track originally appeared on the ‘Shapes One’ compilation.
‘Soya’ is a dark and brooding atmospheric piece, built around a haunting string part. With its neat little vocal hook and lush acoustic guitars, ‘Dreaming’ brings things to a close.
The ‘Salt Water EP’ was Mawglee’s only release for Tru Thoughts.
