This very special live album was the first release on Tru Thoughts by The Nostalgia 77 Octet.
‘Sevens & Eights’ was recorded live at the popular Jazz Café venue in London.
Reinventing tracks from Benedic Lamdin’s solo back-catalogue, the Octet display a fresh and incredibly coherent vision of modern British jazz music. Listening to it now, it’s hard to believe that this was only their second public performance.
In addition to six full-length live tracks, ‘Sevens & Eights’ features all three movements of ‘The Hope Suite’. Described by Gilles Peterson as one of the best tracks of 2005, this 18-minute opus was only available on vinyl prior to the release of this album.
