Super 8 7"
‘Super 8’ was the first 7” outing for Will Holland’s QSO project, a two-part live funk workout that became something of an anthem both on and off the dancefloor.
While Part One goes all out to rock the club soundsystems, Part Two brings the percussive elements to the fore; revealing the quality of Holland’s arrangement and creating ideal sample-material for the beatmakers of the future.
A vocal re-working of ‘Super 8’ entitled ‘Walking Through Tomorrow’ appears on the Quantic Soul Orchestra’s debut album, ‘Stampede’.
Former Tru Thoughts labelmate Bonobo also reinvented ‘Super 8’ as a downbeat classic for his ‘Kota’ 7”.
Big Daddy “Will Holland has come into his own with this hard funk tune rammed full with long drum breaks. Top Single for 2001”
Breakin’ Point “Dancefloor destruction in the form of a raw sounding old school funk tune. Future break producers will be checking this one”
DJ Magazine “A hat-tipping tribute to the world of instrumental funk. In true funk 45 style this is genuinely lo-fi and authentic sounding. Get on the good foot and step back!”
7 Magazine “Packed full of beaty goodness, Quantic’s take on the funk 7” is a rough–as-fuck racket from start to finish, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. This is the real beef!”
Aim “Easily one of the best new live funk tunes I’ve heard”
DJ Food “What is there to say? Anyone with an ounce of taste would put this straight in their box and on the playlist. Excellent”
