Dancefloor smash from Zed Bias, Rodney P & Fallacy aka Sleepin’ Giantz

The word is pretty much out there, the buzz is well underway – since Benji B (BBC R1), Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music), Mistajam (BBC R1/1Xtra) and others have been rinsing the immense track “Badungdeng” for some time – but Tru Thoughts are proud to finally be making it official. “Badungdeng” will be released on digital single on 28th May, and it is abundantly clear from the opening four bars that this track is nothing short of a banger.

Sleepin’ Giantz is an all new collaboration between three pioneering UK heavyweights – Zed Bias (the main musical alter-ego of the Manchester based producer Dave Jones, one of the founders of breakbeat garage), London Posse man Rodney P (widely regarded as the Godfather of British hip hop) and Fallacy (the missing link between grime and UK hip hop).

On “Badundeng” the combination of Zed’s unmistakable rhythmic take on house – applying tribal percussion so clean it sounds like the drummer is right there with you, over thick bassline melodies and a glistening synthline – plus the flow of two of the best to hold a mic, is unstoppable; you’ll be chanting “Badungdeng” in no time. So great is the desire for this track that the word of mouth led to DJs all around the world pestering Tru Thoughts for a promo for months, even before they had announced that the project had officially signed to the label earlier this year. Early reactions to the official upfront promo have been staggering, and it is now set to take over the airwaves, clubs and media in a major way. Here’s some more of the rapturous early feedback:

“Sick track. Big Up Dave and Rodney P and Fallacy.” – Mark Pritchard (Warp)
“this seems huge, bigup zed!” – Martin Clark (Pitchfork/Rinse FM)
“Classic written all over it” – DK (Solid Steel/Ninja Tune)
“Sick! Been waiting for this promo for time! Tooo tuff!” – Madam X (Unity Radio FM)
“This is a TUNE! So pleased it’s finally getting released” – Emily Dicks (BBC R1)
“fukn heavy” – DJ Vadim
“yeah straight classic, so glad it finally gets a release…” – DJ Lefto
“Hotness! Just the sort of thing that needs to be on US radio – should mess up some heads!” – East Village Radio
“Tune is too BIG!” – DJ Die
“Lovely to say the least. Killer combination!” – Ashley Beedle
“been caning this for yonks – wicked stuff” – Behling & Simpson
“Sick tune, waiting for this one to drop for ages! Wicked production and Rodney P kills it” – Gabriel (Rinse FM)

Forging links between hip hop, grime and dubstep, the debut Sleepin’ Giantz album will be released on Tru Thoughts in July 2012. Fallacy talks about how the project came together and the day “Badungdeng” was born: “Rodney was in with Zed making music, I finished a rave I host called Sexy Ugly and came through. That was the night we recorded “Badungdeng”. Between me and Rodney we are a mix of busy, lazy and too cool to give a shit so the work wasn’t happening. I did a couple drop-ins with Zed but I wasn’t making music at the time. Zed just put it out there and said let’s do it – it will happen quicker and you will both half your workload. It’s still taken 2 years but we are here. Sleepin’.” More info on the album coming soon.
