When Shapes Join Together 2
The second installment in Tru Thoughts’ original Shapes series brings together the cream of the label’s roster circa 2002.
At the time of release, tracks from this compilation were supported by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Ashley Beedle, Groove Armada, Patrick Forge, Mr Thing, DJ Vadim, The Herbaliser, DJ Food, The Wiseguys and John Stapleton.
Portishead’s Andy Smith even went so far as to say it was “the best UK beats compilation” he had ever heard.
Familiar faces include Bonobo, Quantic and his formidable Quantic Soul Orchestra, Natural Self, Jon Kennedy, Flevans and even an early appearance by Al Stylus – better known these days as TM Juke.
The album also includes tracks by Chroma, who went of to sign for LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking label as Pete Rann, and Diversion Tactics, who released their debut album on Zebra Traffic in October 2002.
XLR8R “Melodic, unpretentious material – now is as good a time as any to jump on board the good ship Tru Thoughts”
IDJ “If you’ve yet to be reeled in by this imprint, now’s the time to let yourself get hooked”
Muzik “Tru Thoughts can be relied upon to deliver all manner of breakbeat charm and delight”
The Big Chill “The label responsible for many of the freshest sounds around have another ace up their sleeve”
