All Of You EP
Released: 11th Mar, 2012
Label: Tru Thoughts
The “All Of You” EP is the first official single release by Riz MC on Tru Thoughts. Out on 12th March, this digital release shines the spotlight on a collection of stunning new reworks of the dark, twisted love song “All Of You” including a highly anticipated new version featuring Plan B on rapping duties, as well as remixes by dBridge (Instra:Mental) and RackNRuin (Black Butter).
The new video for “All Of You” feat. Aruba Red and Plan B stars Riz himself alongside Plan B and celebrated rising actress Jodie Whittaker (Attack The Block, Venus); causing a major Twitter buzz on its launch, it gained over 5,000 YouTube hits in just a few hours.
The brooding, brutal lyrical honesty of this dark song is complimented by sparse, distorting bass care of tech-breaks rising star Lazersonic (Zak Frost, Turbo, Eye Industries) on production. The original version (self-released in 2011) gained tastemaker support from DJs including Huw Stephens (BBC R1) and these new cuts are set to launch this track into a whole new sphere.
Riz MC makes sonically innovative and lyrically sharp music, which has won him a loyal online following and sparked huge press, TV and radio interest. Championed by BBC Radio 1 (through the ‘Introducing’ stage at Glastonbury, the Electric Proms and a Maida Vale session, as well as heavy radio play), he has toured his groundbreaking interactive live show around the UK and internationally, to rave reviews; and played with the likes of Massive Attack, Nitin Sawhney, Dizzee Rascal and Mos Def. His critically acclaimed digital album, ‘MICroscope’, which he self-released in 2011 – and the immersive multimedia world he created around it – is a fresh, powerful, entertaining and thought-provoking experience, and sets Riz apart as a singular voice with an innovative and bold musical vision.
The “All Of You” EP is a taster of the first ever CD release of ‘MICroscope’ which is due out on Tru Thoughts in Summer 2012, boasting a stash of new content which sees Riz MC developing his ideas further and raising the bar again. ‘MICroscope’ bristles with risks, intensity, and intelligence. The depth and ambition of the lyrics cut across the honed contours of impossible-to-categorize futuristic bass, as easily as they gel with acoustic strings, or pierce dense layers of jazz-electronica. Working on the original album with tech-breaks rising star Lazersonic, and Glasgow label NMBRS’ hot shot signing Redinho, Riz is mixing big ideas with big bass. The original digital album was heaped with praise on its initial release in 2011, and this deluxe physical outing on the established indie will bring all-new skits created and recorded in collaboration with the mighty Zed Bias, plus a host of hot remixes.
‘MICroscope’ isn’t just an album – it also has a high concept live show, website, and short film, each giving us a glimpse into an elaborate sci-fi story-world. Both at the live show and online, ‘MICroscope’ invites you into a world of sonic warfare – where the secret government agency the Department of Culture and Communication seeks to control the population with powerful sonic viruses – and only the underground resistance code maned ‘MICroscope’, stands in their way. The results will literally move your mind…
The groundbreaking live show, both fully immersive and interactive, has won over discerning crowds and hardened critics, previewing at Sadlers Wells Theatre, and then going on to become a huge hit at Fabric as well as Glastonbury and Latitude festivals and inspiring rapturous reviews. The web game (to be relaunched soon – watch this space) will allow you to continue your journey in the ‘MICroscope’ story-world for three action packed minutes, leave with three free mp3s, and unlock a specially made short film that Riz directed. Designed by Swarm studios, the exciting Lab portal won a prestigious Favourite Website Award (FWA) for innovation in digital design.
In whatever artistic discipline or mode of expression he turns his hand to, Riz displays the level of skill, passion and originality for which he is becoming known. His concurrent career as an actor (under his full name, Riz Ahmed) has seen him star in highly acclaimed Brit productions – including playing the lead in Chris Morris’ Four Lions – and increasingly make a name for himself in Hollywood, with roles opposite Freida Pinto, Kate Hudson, and Antonio Banderas in the offing. He is also starring in regular co-conspirator Plan B’s directorial debut iLL Manors, due out imminently. Having been making music for as long as he can remember, he is no more an actor-turned-rapper than the other way around, simply an example of a multi-talented and expressive creator and one of the UK’s brightest stars.
