All Talk / So Natural
Released: 4th Aug, 2014
Label: Tru Thoughts
4th August brings the latest in a relentless volley of double A-side singles from Titeknots on Tru Thoughts, this one showcasing two more brand new cuts guaranteed to set floors on fire this summer, “All Talk” and “So Natural”.
Over the course of just six previous tracks, released across three digital singles between September and April, Titeknots has won immense club, radio and press support, with everyone from THUMP to Tensnake to DJ Zinc to Lauren Laverne coming on board to praise his fresh, alternative take on house music.
Mixing together the cut and paste, rough and ready feel of sample-based hip hop with the musicality and energy of house and disco, these new Titeknots productions take inspiration from the likes of early Kenny Dope and Armand Van Helden, yet the irresistible style and personality at the heart of these tracks is very much his own.
“My main aim is to provide an alternative to the ultra-polished and stripped-back house and techno music that has become more trendy recently, bringing back the sounds of live instruments, chord movement, harmonies and multi-layered drums with a bit of grit around the edges”, elaborates the Brighton based producer and DJ. “I try and blur the lines between samples and original material, treating my own played parts like they’re chopped out of an old record, so that listeners can’t tell.”
Additional tastemaker support for Titeknots so far includes Laidback Luke, Kry Wolf, DJ Mag, Rob da Bank (BBC R1), Nightmares On Wax (Warp), Sinden, Ras Kwame (Capital Xtra), Lauren Laverne (BBC 6Music), Nemone (BBC 6Music), Gerd, LTJ Bukem, Joe 90 (FutureBoogie), Jason Pulaski (KUCI), Eric Lawrence (KCRW), Mi-Soul, Dom Servini & Scrimshire (Wah Wah 45s), Eddy Ramich, and inclusion in the XFM X-posure ‘2014 Ones To Watch’ list. Amid the hype came his superb remix of label mate Harleighblu's “Love Like This”, which has made its way into sets around the world.
This new single promo follows hot on the heels of a busy weekend for Titeknots, with gigs at both Camden Crawl and Ministry Of Sound in one night; the last year has also seen Titeknots increasingly in demand, with gigs including a three hour set at Glastonbury, a sellout spot in Amsterdam, support for Daedelus and Bonobo, and a peak-time set at Koko for Tru Thoughts 15th Anniversary.
